Many people are not aware that there is a difference between hemp oil and CBD oil. Hemp oil is the extract obtained after hemp seeds are cold compressed and is sometimes referred to as Hemp seed oil. CBD oil, conversely, is derived from the plant of cannabis plants and has some phytonutrients from the plant. Hemp oil has no THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), the psychoactive agent in the plant, as the seeds have no THC, but CBD (Cannabidiol) oil has traces of it. Due to the restrictions imposed on the growth of Industrial hemp, however, Hemp CBD oil has less than 0.3% THC and the CBD contained therein counteracts its psychoactive qualities.
Hemp CBD oil is being used for its medicinal value for humans. It has many of the same qualities as hemp oil making it very nutritious due to its high protein, fatty acids, minerals, and vitamins content. CBD interacts with the body’s Endocannabinoid System (ECS) which is involved in many bodily processes and has been shown to manage memory, sleep, appetite, moods, and even its immune response. It is used in handling a lot of chronic diseases such as arthritis, diabetes, and cancer as it has anti-inflammatory and painkilling qualities. It also serves a neuroprotective function and can be used to regulate hormones and moods in depressants and women with PMS (Premenstrual stress) or those going through menopause. CBD oil is also being incorporated into hair and skin products. It is used in making soaps, shampoos, detergents and other skin and hair care products.
CBD oil is also being used to treat animals such as cats and dogs. It has been shown to be an anticonvulsant thereby aiding in managing tremors, tics, seizures and spasms in animals. It is also used to help animals with cancer as it has been proven to help stop and slow down development of malignant tumor growth. It also increases the rate of cells absorbing chemotherapy agents. Besides that, it also helps in managing moods, nausea, appetite, sleep and fatigue associated with chemotherapy. Animals have an endocannabinoid system just like humans and the other benefits human reap can help animals too.
CBD oil can also be used as a biofuel and is an excellent alternative to fossil fuel. It was used in lighting oil lamps in the past but can also be used as biodiesel for engines and as a lubricant. It is a good fuel source because it produces about a third of CO2 compared to petroleum products. Besides fuel use, it may be incorporated in making bioplastics or composite bioplastics. The oil can polymerize and can therefore also be incorporated into paints and wood varnish. As an oil, it may be used on its own or as a blend with other oils and resins.
CBD oils’ uses are yet to be thoroughly exhausted as research is still ongoing. The high demand for its products may lead to an increase in its cultivation and hopefully push countries which still have restrictions to its growth to lift their ban on it.
